Weighting Factor Free Model Predictive Control for a Flying Capacitor Converter in a DC Microgrid

This paper presents a single-objective model predictive control for bidirectional DC-DC flying capacitor (FC) converter, which integrates battery to the microgrid. The presence of multiple FCs facilitates converter interface low-voltage high-voltage DC bus at reduced voltage stress on its power switches. However, such requires controller that fulfils objectives, namely and FC regulations, flow. key feature proposed is it utilizes with cost function based current redundant state selection scheme attain these objectives. Adopting strategy not only reduces computational burden but also eliminates need weighting factors requirement complex numerical models estimation. Another notable aspect employs an improved dynamic reference generate appropriate regulation, without necessitating secondary loop additional sensors. Finally, experimental results system step-response voltage, varying PV power, loads are validated compared against finite set control.
